The Boise State Broncos absolutely routed Eastern Washington in a dominant 51-14 win, putting on an offensive clinic in front of Bronco Nation.
The blowout victory extended Boise State’s home win streak to 13 straight games, and they did it in style with 637 total yards of offense. The attack was perfectly balanced, with 328 yards on the ground and 309 through the air — marking the first time the Broncos have topped 300 yards in both categories since a 2018 win over UConn.
Quarterback Maddux Madsen looked sharp, throwing for 217 yards (typo corrected) and two touchdowns, tying his career high. Both scores went to redshirt senior Ben Ford, who hauled in his first career touchdown on a 60-yard strike in the first quarter and added another later in the game.
This win was more than just another home opener — it was a much-needed bounce back after the Broncos’ frustrating Week One loss to USF. That defeat stung, but looks better in hindsight after USF shocked No. 13 Florida to earn a spot in the AP Top 25.
Head coach Spencer Danielson had made it clear he expected a leap from Week One to Week Two, and his players responded.
“The two things I talked about with our team were first off our effort and mentality,” Danielson said. “Those two things were non-negotiable in this game.”
That effort showed everywhere. Five different Broncos found the end zone on the ground, Madsen dropped dimes through the air, and linebacker Ty Benefield tied his career high with nine tackles, including three tackles for loss.
Danielson didn’t forget to give a nod to the fans, either.
“Bronco Nation, you are the absolute best fan base in the country, thank you,” he said after the game. “It’s an event you do not want to miss.”
With a bye week up next, the Broncos will have extra time to prepare for a huge test against Air Force on the road, September 20 at 5 p.m. MT on CBS Sports Network.
