The Bronco Mendenhall era in Logan is officially underway – and it started with a win.
Utah State football opened its 2025 campaign in style last Saturday, defeating UTEP 28-16 at Maverik Stadium.
Graduate running back Miles Davis stole the spotlight, racking up a career-high 184 all-purpose yards and a touchdown. The Aggies’ offense leaned on him all night as he showcased his versatility both on the ground and through the air.
With the victory, the Aggies have now won four of its last five season openers.
For head coach Bronco Mendenhall, the debut was one to remember.
“It was a really gratifying day,” Mendenhall said. “I’m really fortunate to be the coach at Utah State. The stadium was electric and it really was a home-field advantage. I felt lucky to be the coach tonight.”
QB Bryson Barnes also shined, completing 19-28 passes for 233 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown strike to tight end Broc Lane. Barnes also added 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground, putting together a complete performance to lead the Aggies’ offense.
For BYU fans, the name Miles Davis should ring a bell. The former Cougar ended the night for the Aggies with 12 carries for 95 yards, including a highlight-reel 58-yard touchdown run. Davis also hauled in all six of his targets for 61 receiving yards, capping off a stellar night in the blue and white.
From start to finish, the Aggies controlled the game and never looked back. Now, the challenge ramps up in Week Two as Utah State hits the road to take on No. 19 Texas A&M this Saturday at 10:45 a.m. MT on SEC Network.
